Los Angeles: Officer involved in shooting at hospital.
Police in Los Angeles reported a shooting on Saturday that involved an officer at a hospital in Torrance, California, although there was no word on the circumstances of the incident, any injuries, or where at the hospital it occurred.
Los Angeles Police Department spokeswoman Jane Kim said the department was investigating the officer-involved shooting at Harbor-UCLA Medical Center, but had no further information.
"At this point there is no public safety concern," Kim said, adding that the department expected to hold a press conference on Saturday evening to provide more details.
The shooting comes at a time of heightened scrutiny over police use of force, particularly in the wake of high-profile killings of unarmed black men across the country.
Harbor-UCLA Medical Center is one of five level-one trauma centers in Los Angeles County, the facility says on its website.
Phil Rocha, a spokesman for Harbor-UCLA said earlier on Saturday that there was no ongoing threat, such as an active gunman in the hospital
Police were investigating the matter, Rocha said, though he declined to provide further details.
