safe time on your weaknesses.

"If you spend too much time working on your weaknesses,  all you end up with is a lot of strong weaknesses" says Dan Sullivan.

It's important for parents, mentors, guardians and care-givers to understand that top performers spend very little time on their weaknesses and help their teenagers to LEARN from this. Often children are told to focus on their weaker subjects and habits and not spend so much time on the one they are naturally good at/do well in simply because you want them to develop a broad level of competency in many subjects instead of focusing on a few.  And because of this kind of training many teenagers grow up to become distracted adults who end up requiring a lot more resources to be fixed.

As an adult, if you're honest,  you know that there are things you're totally 'useless' at doing but because you've been challenged doing a lot of thing and probably became good at a lot of different things you're not able to clearly differentiate your  area of brilliance from your weaknesses; and you're applying the same formula to the teenager you're guiding now.

BEWARE!

Note: You're most likely to succeed in life if you use your talents to their fullest extent. So you need to encourage that child to work on what she does well.
