Cultism in Ogun,10 in police custody.
The Ogun State Police Command has arrested 10 suspects who allegedly
partook in cult related activities in Mowe, Ogun State, on Tuesday.
The police said the suspects, nine men and a woman, were arrested in various locations in Mowe following a violent cult clash between two rival groups.
According to the statement signed by the command’s Public Relations Officer (PRO), Abimbola Oyeyemi, the groups unleash mayhem in the area.
He said: “They vandalised vehicles and made life uncomfortable for innocent residents of the area. Distress calls were made to the Area Commander, Sagamu and Divisional Police Officer (DPO), Mowe.
“Consequently, policemen were swiftly deployed to the scene and repelled the assailants. In the process, 10 among the hoodlums were arrested including a female member who investigation revealed is the person whose house they gathered to hold meeting and strategised on how to carry out the attack. The Area Commander, Sagamu, ACP Issa Gremma, who personally led the operation, is still on ground monitoring the situation.”
Oyeyemi said the state Commissioner of Police, Ahmed Iliyasu, ordered the immediate transfer of the suspects to the State Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department (CIID) and warned that violent crime would not have a place in the state.
“He appealed to parents to warn their children to desist from any criminal act as the Command is all out to deal decisively with anybody caught perpetrating acts of criminality.
“He advised residents to go about their normal businesses as the police will deploy everything in its arsenal to ensure their safety all the time,” Oyeyemi added.
