COVID-19: Mixed reactions, controversy as Ooni of Ife discovers herbal solutions for dreaded virus
Indeed, the claims made by the highly respected traditional ruler has divided opinions on social media.
In fact, the Ooni claimed that a prophecy on the rampaging COVID-19 had earlier been issued nearly a year ago.
‘‘A divine proclamation came out to the world last year June 6th 2019, during the World Ifa Festival – Otura Meji. We foretold about the impending rage of this invisible pandemic war, but few heard us. Please note that Efod/ Urim and Thurim are in the holy Books.”
Subsequently, he had urged Nigerians to focus more on herbal medicine as a solution to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Specifically, he had made the claim in a couple of videos posted on his Twitter andInstagram pages; where he detailed how several natural herbs like dogoyaro, onions, bitter leaf, African pepper and neem tree, among others; can be used to treat COVID-19.

Further, the monarch had claimed that the herbs can achieve a potent result against COVID-19; if used individually or mixed together to produce an incense.
As a matter of fact, the monarch has also disclosed his determination to work with willing partners in packaging and distributing the herbal remedies globally.I'm also currently working with Yem Kem International (Alternative Medicine Expert) pharmaceutical company for the packaging and distribution of these globally.
It is about time to save the world now. Tomorrow may be too late.
Let's all keep safe.#Coronavirus #COVID19
‘‘PLEASE DO NOT TAKE THIS FOR GRANTED (The world did with the warning Last Year June). I also challenge researchers both in Nigeria and the world to make these natural herbs into clinical medicine and extract the vaccines from it. I am ready to work with them and provide huge access to the herbs. It is real and it works. I have a lot gathered together for the use of mankind,’’ he wrote on Twitter.
Indeed, the claims by the revered Nigerian monarch had created a mini-controversy on social media. Shortly after the posts were made, Nigerians had began weighing in with their opinions.
In fact, while some hailed the Ooni for his suggestions which they claimed was efficacious and worth trying out; another school of thought has lampooned the monarch’s recommendations. Also, the contentious nature of the claims may have played a part in the controversy.
Meanwhile, 1st News has put together some of the comments on the raging controversy.
I saw the video where the Ooni clearly explained how selected herbs can be used to cure #COVID19. There was no magic in that, it was pure science. If you put this and this together, you will get this result. What is science again? These Westerners brainwashed us too much.
I'm not surprised that Ooni of Ife said he has alternative cure for #COVID19. This is not his first time of spitting gibberish. This same man once said he discovered a waterfall with seven colours in Ife. This is a wrong time for him to join league of liars

Equally important, the call by a certain Twitter user for the Ooni to be arrested had added to the controversy. In fact, a number of other users had taken umbrage at the suggestion.
